On 13 March 2025, Counsel and Head of the Employment Law and Data Protection Practice at Stonebridge Legal Denis Bushnev spoke at the 2025 Labour Law and Employment Disputes Pravo.ru conference.
Clients and those engaged by them increasingly find each other through apps. Their relations are similar to labour relations, though they have some differences. But these relations remain unregulated. In contrast, work with personal data is strictly controlled by the authorities, so companies need to learn how to correctly and securely store such data. These and other topics were discussed by experts at the Pravo.ru conference.
In the first session, entitled Future National Team Champions, Denis Bushnev spoke about the risks for employers engaging platform workers.
A draft law on the platform economy is currently being developed, which is being discussed at various venues, up to and including the Federation Council. According to Denis, this document is not as intimidating as one may imagine. Firstly, the initiative is still being developed by the relevant departments and it has not been submitted to State Duma. Secondly, there is a common understanding among state and business representatives that platform employment is not equal to labour relations but needs the stimulation of social insurance, albeit still on a voluntary basis.
We would like to thank all those involved in the conference for their participation and the organiser for the opportunity to be a part of the event.
More information about the conference can be found on the Pravo.ru website.
