On 28 May 2026, Stonebridge Legal hosted a seminar titled “Employers and employees’ personal devices – from compliance and personal data to employment disputes”. The firm’s experts discussed the legal boundaries of monitoring employees’ use of personal devices, the risks of data breaches and the use of disciplinary measures.
Roman Butenko, Partner and Head of the Dispute Resolution Practice; Denis Bushnev, Counsel and Head of the Labour Law & Data Protection Practice; and Victoria Deniskina, Associate in Stonebridge Legal’s Dispute Resolution Practice, presented a comprehensive approach to the issue.
The focus was on the Acceptable Use Policy (hereinafter ‘AUP’) as an internal regulatory document, the boundaries of an employee’s private life and the “reasonable expectation of privacy” test, as well as high-risk scenarios: forwarding data to personal email accounts, installing unlicensed software, publishing corporate information on social media, and connecting unverified storage devices. A separate section of the presentation covered the admissibility of evidence obtained during internal investigations. The speakers discussed how to gain access to an employee’s personal device during an investigation and how the AUP can assist in this regard.
Stonebridge Legal would like to thank all guests for their participation and open dialogue, and looks forward to further collaboration!
