Tretyakov Gallery opens its Magic of Watercolour exhibition with the support of Stonebridge Legal

On 28 November 2024, the Tretyakov Gallery hosted the official opening of The Magic of Watercolour. From Collections of Graphic Art of the 18th to Early 20th Centuries exhibition, organised with the support of Stonebridge Legal.

The Magic of Watercolour exhibition contains over 350 works of renowned and well-known watercolourists, including ceremonial portraits by A. P. Bryullov and P. F. Sokolov, sheets from the biblical cycle by A. A. Ivanov, and a series of works depicting Italian and Spanish nature by V. I. Surikov, late works by M. A. Vrubel and V. E. Borisov-Musatov.

For many years Stonebridge Legal has been an official partner of the Tretyakov Gallery’s exhibitions, which reflects our commitment to the preservation and promotion of Russian art.

Konstantin Orlov, counsel at Stonebridge Legal, photographer and former editor of the National Geographic photography section, spoke at the opening of the exhibition:

“The Magic of Watercolour exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see rarely exhibited watercolours by Russian artists.

The exhibition presents works of outstanding masters of their time, such as Fyodor Tolstoy, Valentin Serov, Mikhail Vrubel and Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva, who rendered the beauty and harmony of the world through their watercolour masterpieces.

The exhibition demonstrates well how, through skilled hands, unique watercolour techniques “magically” play with light, colour and tonality on a sheet of paper. It also provides an opportunity to get back in touch with the history and culture of our people in the 18th and early 20th centuries.

No wonder the Magic of Watercolour opened so close to the New Year and Christmas holidays. It is a great holiday gift from the Tretyakov Gallery, and Stonebridge Legal is proud to be part of this event. Our joint efforts have once again given exposure to the masterpieces of the biggest names in the Russian fine art.”

We invite all art, history and culture fans to visit the exhibition and use the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of the artists of the past, and enjoy their talent and skill. The exhibition is open from 29 November 2024 to 18 May 2025.
